Bowel Management Training Course
This Bowel Management Training Course is designed for nurses, carers, healthcare assistants and care staff supporting people with complex bowel care needs, including individuals with spinal cord injuries, neurological conditions or chronic bowel dysfunction. The course develops knowledge and practical skills to provide safe, effective, dignified and person-centred bowel care.
Training covers bowel anatomy and physiology, constipation, bowel incontinence, bowel routines and management, medication, infection prevention and practical bowel care techniques, including anal-rectal stimulation and manual evacuation where appropriate. Learners develop the knowledge and confidence to support individual bowel management plans and promote dignity, comfort and independence.

Bowel Management After Spinal Cord Injury: Understand bowel care and management following spinal cord injury (SCI).
Bowel Anatomy and Physiology: Understand normal bowel function and the importance of maintaining an effective bowel routine.
Constipation and Incontinence: Define and recognise constipation and bowel incontinence.
Factors Affecting Bowel Function: Identify factors that can contribute to constipation, incontinence and changes in bowel function.
Bowel Management: Understand key factors that influence effective bowel care and management.
Anal-Rectal Stimulation: Develop knowledge and practical skills in anal-rectal stimulation techniques.
Safe Bowel Care: Understand hygiene, infection prevention and control, and safe care procedures.
